Sustainability at Oshkosh Corporation

Last time, we talked about the sustainable practices Power Towers adopted within the organization. Today, we invite you to look at this topic at a larger scale. 

As you might know, in 2015, JLG Industries purchased Power Towers Ltd. In turn, for many years JLG is a part of Oshkosh Corporation, a global leader in machinery manufacturing and innovation. All the brands under Oshkosh adopt the sustainable practices and initiatives, leaving a positive impact on environment and the community. In 2022, Oshkosh corporation published a report highlighting the great successes and milestones achieved in terms of sustainability. 

Oshkosh Corporation is deeply committed to sustainability, focusing on various aspects beyond just environmental responsibility. The company’s sustainability efforts are guided by four core areas: empowering people, developing innovative products, building communities, and operating sustainably. 

Empowering people 

Oshkosh Corporation takes pride in its commitment to diversity and inclusion. In 2022, an impressive 50% of external hires were considered diverse, reflecting the company’s dedication to creating a workplace that values and embraces differences, and fosters a rich work culture. 

Developing innovative products 

In line with the global shift towards greener technologies, Oshkosh Corporation made significant strides in promoting sustainability through its product offerings. Over 39,000 electric emission-free hybrid units were sold in 2022, contributing to reduction in carbon emissions. 

Building communities 

Oshkosh Corporation has various communities within the organization such as Young Professionals’ Network, Oshkosh Women’s Network, WE Connect, Oshkosh Cares Funds. The latter initiative distributed over $106,000 to team members in 2022. This initiative not only supports individual team members in times of need, but also reinforces the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen, actively contributing to the welfare of its workforce. 

Operating sustainably 

With a focus on reducing its environmental footprint, Oshkosh Corporation embraced sustainable packaging practices. The use of 724,000+ reusable packaging containers resulted in significant reduction of 14 million pounds of waste.  

Ethical leadership 

Oshkosh Corporation ensures that its team members are not only proficient in their roles but also uphold the highest ethical standards. In 2022, 100% of team members underwent training on “The Oshkosh Way”, the code of conduct and ethics. This commitment to ethical leadership reinforces a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability throughout the organization.  

All these efforts were rewarded by the fifth consecutive year, Oshkosh Corporation has been named to the 2023 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI).
